Atmospheric model learning for weather prediction

Accurate forecasts of wind speed and direction are crucial to Olympic sailors to plan the optimal sailing path and win a competition. Today’s forecasts are based on numeric solutions of complex mathematical models which are inaccurate. This inaccuracy might cause the sailor to plan a sub-optimal path and lose an Olympic medal. In this project we try to build a more accurate model based on machine learning methods, in order to forecast the wind speed and direction for the Israeli sailor team for the Olympics in Tokyo 2020. Our model’s inputs are the classical numeric forecasts and the recent measurements of wind speed and direction at the competition region.
