Construction Error Detection and Correction SystemBased on a Building Scan’s Point Cloud

In construction projects there it is difficult to track and document the progress of a project. Many errors occur and are often not reported. Even when reported, this is problematic due to the fact it is done by hand, the additional need of manpower, and inconsistent frequency of reporting, which may not guarantee problems being fixed in the appropriate time. In addition, the format of the reporting and level of detail may be inconsistent.

To fix these problems, the need for a quick and consistent way to automate the documentation of the work with comparison to plans, arises.  In addition, interactive systems can be used to project the work plans on the physical space of the worksite, allowing for a simpler, faster, and more accurate way to realize the plans.

In this project, we take a scan of a room in the point cloud format, and analyze the shape of the room. We then use the data of the room to model the projection of a projector on one of the walls, either when facing the walls directly or in an angle.

In addition, we find deviations from a flat wall, and use that to construct a visual height map. This is in order to help with easier and more consistent plastering of walls.
