S.E.E.M Simulation Environment of Energy Manufacturers

Due to Amendment 16 for the Electricity Market Law, which was confirmed at 18.07.2018, a privatization process of vast portions of the electricity manufacturing has been debuted. The Goal of the process is enabling the privatization of the power generating systems and allowing the construction of new, private, power generating systems, all as part of the power ministry’s greater goal – 30% of renewable energy consumption in Israel up until 2030.

This privatization process made the Israeli Electricity Company (IEC), in the past, and the Electrical System Management Company (SMC), in the present, face new challenge:

  • Connecting the electricity network to energy sources which theirs’ features, such as geographic location and technical features, were designed by outside parties.
  • Change in the direction of power flow, so instead of flowing only from power sources of the IEC to the consumers, some energy flows from the consumers side to the network.
  • Rapid growth in amount of power sources.

As part of the planning process, there is a need in running multiple simulations, while comparing and checking the results considering quality criterions, which was determined by the IEC. For the time of writing these words, a tool which allows the running of the above-mentioned simulations efficiently, does not exist within reach of the SMC.

The purpose of this project is to create a tool which will allow the electrical system planners to run the simulations which are needed for the entrance of the private energy manufacturers to the market and showing the results in manner which will allow fast and efficient deducing of conclusions
