Construction Process Monitoring, Error Detection And Correction With Laser Scanner And Live Projection Feedback

Project:

Construction process monitoring, error detection and correction with laser scanner and live projection feedback.

Background:

The Construction industry grows significantly in time. As a result, construction projects require a lot of resources which are expressed in money and time. Hence the requirement for monitoring and identification of early-stage errors, became an integral part of the project success.

Motivation:

Construction project monitoring is usually done manually by professionals. Monitoring that is performed in this way is subject to human error.

Purpose:

Because of all the previous reasons we were required to expand the ability to monitor and identify errors in construction projects. The monitoring and the follow-ups are required to be performed frequently in order to detect errors at an early stage and obtain work status directly in order to plan future steps at any point of time and closely related to the project’s progression. This is where the demand for automatic monitoring and with the help of technological tools to significantly reduce the error variance, in addition to the fact that an error resulting from automation is robust and can be controlled. As a result, we will reduce the need for manpower and professionals which may add additional costs and valuable time.

Experiment:

We decided to demonstrate the concept of the work with the help of tracking geometric locations of construction objects.

The final product is the projection of the errors revealed from the execution of the experiment.
