AI – the term that overtook the research and industry world in the last decades, has brought with it some promising forecasts regarding the upcoming future. Predictions of optimization and improvement of the existing technology. And practically, a promise for a fundamental change in the way we live. Image processing via machine learning is one of the main topics in this field. And as such, the motivation to implement it for practical uses is massive.
Implementation of technology is far from being a new idea. And we can see it’s uses in national security, government organizations, many industries such as food, medicine and car, as well as in the health system.
The medical world managed to overcome issues that seemed impossible, with the implementation of technology in a creative manner by examining operations and other medical protocols.
In our project, we focused on using image processing via machine learning technology in order to optimize performance of medical operations from a remote location. By learning from the hand gestures of an expert physician, we wanted to come up with a solution that would mimic the physician’s motion so he could treat patients from a far.
Therefore, we created a system that would receive an image of the physician hands as an input, learn his course of action and transform it to an output of coordinates specified for a virtual robotic arm simulator. That way, and by using Deep Learning algorithm, we managed to prove the potential implementation of using image processing via machine learning technology as a further effective method for this usage.
