Electronic gear shifting system based on a single DC motor for “Formula” race cars

In the world of motorized vehicles, gears are used to manually control the output of the power output from the ignition engine and the use of this power as required by the driver.
In race cars, minimal weight and reaction time are critical requirements in automotive systems. Any improvement in these requirements can be a significant advantage over other competing cars.
In this project we planned a system based on a single DC motor that mechanically operates the engine's transmission shaft using a mechanical system.
The project is part of the “Formula 2017” Technion student group.
