Anisocoria is a condition characterized by an unequal size of the pupils. In some cases, this syndrome is a symptom of another disease that should be treated immediately. Some of the pathologies that may be characterized by anisocoria are – brain tumors, head injury, multiple sclerosis and more.
Nowadays, the pupils’ function is examined by a physician. The examination normally includes a rough assessment of the difference between the pupil areas. If needed, the physician may illuminate the pupils to examine whether the pupillary light reflex is functioning properly or not.
In this project we aim to implement a tool for the HMOs, which will simulate a preliminary medical examination and help prioritize and manage appointments. Our goal is to offer a simple home examination of the pupil function, which any patient with a computer and a webcam can perform at home without the need for special preparations or additional technological / medical knowledge.
Our software connects to the webcam and instructs the user to look at a screen that darkens and illuminates in a controlled manner. In this way, using various deep learning algorithms, we monitor the characteristics of the pupil and its function.
